“You should tell them that indistinctiveness is my forte” — Turner’s reply when hearing that some rich douchebag that purchased one of his paintings complained about it and called it indistinct (Willy’s taking none of your shit)

“My mother said to me, ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.’ Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.”

Becoming my father

Have realised that my favorite alcohol right now is probably beer: I like Leffe, and Desperado, and Corona, and 1664. I went through a vodka phase, a tequila phase (did not last long), and concluded that a good mojito is still more enjoyable. Beers, though. Beers and tacos. Good stuff.

Great War, Marcoing, France. As the ferocious battle wound down and enemy troops surrendered or retreated, a wounded German soldier limped out of the maelstrom and into Private Henry Tandey’s (27) line of fire; the battle weary man never raised his rifle and just stared at Tandey resigned to the inevitable.  ”I took aim but couldn’t shoot a wounded man,” said Tandey, “so I let him go.” The young German soldier nodded in thanks and the two men took diverging paths. His name was Adolf Hitler.

Hitler later saw a newspaper report about Tandey being awarded the VC (in October 1918), recognized him, and kept the clipping.

Twenty years later, he acquired a large photograph of a painting featuring Tandey, and when asked why by then British Prime Minister Neville Camberlain he replied:  ”that man came so near to killing me that I thought I should never see Germany again; Providence saved me from such devilishly accurate fire as those English boys were aiming at us”. He also asked Chamberlain to convey his best wishes and gratitude to Tandey.

Gee Henry Tandey, see what happens when you’re brave, heroic, and have a good merciful heart? World War Two. Gryffindors!
